Penn State Falls Out of AP Top 25 After Loss to Wisconsin

Penn State has taken a tumble out of the rankings.

The Nittany Lions on Sunday afternoon were dropped from the AP Top 25 entirely following a 24-20 upset loss at the hands of Wisconsin on Saturday night. They were included on some voters’ ballots and finished in the “others receiving votes” category as the de facto No. 28 team. The Badgers did not climb into the rankings but were the No. 26 team based on vote totals.

Penn State began the season ranked at No. 18, climbing to No. 16, No. 14 and No. 13 after three consecutive wins to begin the season. After an unexpected loss, the team fell out entirely, marking their first time unranked during the Matt Campbell era.

The Nittany Lions now have just one ranked opponent on the schedule this season in No. 18 USC, which fell after losing to Oregon on Saturday night. Future opponents Michigan and Northwestern were included in the others receiving votes category. Other Big Ten teams in the rankings include No. 5 Ohio State, No. 6 Indiana, No. 14 Iowa, No. 15 Oregon and No. 23 UCLA.
